IGDAM May Meetup

Tickets for the May meetup are now available on Eventbrite. This month we’ll be up in the upstairs Alienware Arena at Fortress Melbourne from 6:30pm onwards, generously supported by Fortress’ Grassroots program. As usual your ticket includes a drink token, which you’ll be able to redeem at the upstairs bar, and you’ll be able to order food from the bar as well (so you don’t need to head downstairs to the tavern).

We’ll have a few tables set up at the front for people to sit down and eat meals, an open space for standing and socialising, and a line of tables at the back which are set up for playtesting on a first-come, first-serve basis. To be confirmed on whether we’ll have screens/keyboards/mice provided like last time, but I’ll get this info to you on an email closer to the event.

New Committee Members

I am pleased to announce that the IGDA Melbourne committee has two new members: Brooke and Natalie. Brooke is now managing our venue bookings and logistics, while Natalie will be helping with getting our talk program up and running again.

Thanks to everyone who sent an email out volunteering their time.

See you all there,
June

Melbourne GGJ 2024 Tickets Now Available

Melbourne Global Game Jam is back again in 2024 for a fantastic weekend of game jam at SAE Institute in South Melbourne! Get your ticket through EventHost and join 200 game developers locally and thousands globally for 48 hours of collaborative game development, from the 26th – 28th January.

A huge thanks to our venue sponsor SAE and our platinum sponsor City of Port Phillip for helping us run Global Game Jam in 2024.

Early bird tickets are now available for $70 inc. GST until January 4th, and include catered meals from Friday night through Sunday lunch, as well as on-site PCs and Macs provided by SAE for you to use for the jam.

We also have a limited number of online-only tickets available. We really want to encourage people to attend in-person, especially newcomers to GGJ, as it’s a much more collaborative and social experience. If you need an online-only ticket for health reasons and there’s no more publicly available, please email us and we’ll give you an unlock code for an online ticket.

Lastly, we’ve done some upgrades to the ticketing system this year, so if you do happen to run into any issues please reach out to [email protected] and we’ll get you sorted.

GGJ Volunteer EOI Open

We are looking for volunteers to assist in running a safe and engaging game jam. Volunteer duties can include:

  • Jammer registration
  • Food service handling
  • Running logistical errands
  • Escalating safety issues to the organisers
  • Event space setup and pack down

If you’re interested in volunteering at GGJ (rather than jamming), please fill in our Expression of Interest form linked below. Your help is greatly appreciated!

The Games Week Update

Games Week is just around the corner, and there’s plenty of events and other news happening.

Technically Games: Lightning Talks

Tickets are now available for Technically Games: Lighting Talks.

Join us for a relaxing night of lighting talks on Saturday 7th October. Your ticket includes food and 3 hours of gamedev talks and networking.

Our call for speakers is also still open. If you’d like to give a 5 minute lightning talk – even if you’ve never spoken at a conference before – this is a great opportunity to present your work.

Unreal Engine C++ Workshop

Looking to get started with Unreal Engine, but don’t know where to begin? On Sunday 1st October, Epic Games presents C++ for Unreal Engine by June Rhodes, hosted by RMIT. This free, full day workshop will give you the skills to write Unreal Engine C++ code, even if you’re coming from a C# background with no prior C++ experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to ask questions, connect with the local Unreal Engine community and gain a deeper understanding of how to write C++ code for your own Unreal Engine projects.

Lunch will be provided!

Megadev 2023

Tickets for Megadev 2023 are still available, with the invite code available in various industry spaces, such as the IGDA Melbourne Facebook and Discord groups.

Ticket sales will close on the 30th September. If you haven’t already got a ticket, make sure you do so before Games Week kicks off, as we need to finalise numbers for catering.

Again a big thanks to our Platinum sponsor PlaySide Studios, Silver sponsor Various Tuesdays and Bronze sponsor Cam Rogers Legal.

See you all there,
June

Also please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, the talk program is currently on hold while we find a more suitable venue. We’re still accepting talk submissions, but our plan is to resume the talk program in November or later.

Megadev 2023

With Games Week just around the corner, we’re looking for sponsors for Megadev 2023. Megadev is the closing industry event of Games Week with over 600 game developers attending locally and from interstate.
