The City of Melbourne is running a new co-working space on Collins St specifically for creatives. The space is currently home to several game development studios in Melbourne. The spaces currently available can be found on the Creative Spaces website, from where you can view prices and enquire about a space.

ACMI X is a co-working space for Melbourne-based creatives working across film, TV, videogames and art.

The State Library of Victoria provides free desk space to work at and free Internet. While not a game developer specific space, it can be useful in a pinch if you’re passing through Melbourne and need somewhere to work out of for a few hours.

Internet services are limited to web browsing (HTTP/S protocols) only
Mobile internet reception is extremely poor
These factors combined mean this space is not suitable if you need to e.g. download large files over SSH/Git, use a VPN or remote desktop
