The IGDA International Games Exchange is a pilot initiative between IGDA’s Melbourne, Shenzhen and Japan chapters to enable developers to playtest in other markets. This can provide valuable feedback on localisation ahead of releasing in that region.
Games are exchanged between chapters to be showcased at IGDA events such as meetups.
The International Games Exchange is only for non-commercial purposes: community events & exhibitions for public play and demonstration.
Submit your game to the International Games Exchange (Victorian developers)
Note: If you are not based in Victoria and your community is participating in the program, your local community will have their own submission form for you to fill out.
IGDA Shenzhen will be participating in the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair on May 21st-24th. As part of the International Games Exchange program, IGDA Shenzhen is offering to host a booth to showcase Australian game titles (not limited to Melbourne!) A range of media - including national-level outlets, online media and content creators - are expected to attend and conduct on-site coverage and interviews.
Suitable titles will be selected in the near term, so if you would like to participate, please submit to the International Games Exchange soon so that your game can be under consideration for the showcase.
If you’re a developer outside of Victoria, please only select “China International Cultural Industries Fair on May 21st-24th (Open to all Australian developers)” when filling in the submission form. If you're a developer within Victoria, you may select both CICIF and International Games Exchange when submitting.
Submissions for the CICIF close Monday 11th May, 6pm.
Submit your game to the China International Cultural Industries Fair (Australia-wide)
To be considered, developers need to:
Be appropriately localised for the target region
Be suitable for public play
Sign an agreement with their local chapter granting rights to distribute and exhibit the game in other regions through other IGDA chapters.
Your local chapter will manage submissions and decide which local games progress to be part of the exchange.
The exchange is intended to be on a rolling / regular basis.
Each chapter selects which games are shown in their region as part of the exchange.
Game files or links are added to a shared pool that participating chapters can access.
The Exchange Chapter chooses, from the pool, games that are localised to their region.
The Exchange Chapter takes care of installing and running the game on a local machine for the showcase.
If your game is selected for a showcase, your Local Chapter will let you know ahead of time.
It’s recommended that you make a feedback form available, so that you can receive feedback directly from players. This can either be in-game or provided as a link.
Exchange Chapters may also collect feedback, which will be passed on through your Local Chapter. There’s no guarantee that the Exchange Chapter will also collect feedback, as this is dependent on local capacity (IGDA is volunteer-run).
There is no guarantee when, or if, your game will be showcased in a particular region. This is at the discretion of each chapter.
Showcases are provided on a best effort basis, keeping in mind that equipment and capacity of IGDA chapters will vary between regions.
The program does not offer funding or assistance for developers to visit participating regions.
You will not be charged any fees.
Showcasing does not imply publishing, endorsement, or commercial representation by IGDA or its chapters.
